Los Alamos, NM — February 2, 2026 — Aegis Laboratories today announced it has been awarded a Small Business Technical Assistance grant through the New Mexico Small Business Assistance Program (NMSBA). The award will support advanced scientific studies conducted at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) on behalf of the company.
Aegis Laboratories develops an algae-based biotechnology platform that converts carbon dioxide into scalable, sustainable products, including renewable hydrocarbon oils, proteins, enzymes, waxes, and other advanced bioproducts. The NMSBA-supported collaboration will provide Aegis access to world-class scientific expertise, specialized facilities, and research infrastructure at LANL to advance foundational studies critical to its microalgae biorefinery platform.
“This NMSBA award is a meaningful milestone for Aegis,” said Jesse Hipps, Sr., CEO of Aegis Laboratories. “Access to Los Alamos National Laboratory’s scientific capabilities allows us to rigorously validate and strengthen our technology while accelerating our path toward commercial-scale solutions that support carbon utilization and sustainable manufacturing.”
Established by the State of New Mexico in 2000, the NMSBA Program strengthens the state’s innovation economy by connecting small businesses with technical expertise from Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories. The program provides no-cost technical assistance to help companies overcome R&D challenges, reduce early-stage technical risk, and advance commercialization.
“New Mexico’s national laboratories are a powerful engine for innovation,” Hipps added. “Programs like NMSBA ensure that small businesses can translate world-class science into real economic and environmental impact here in New Mexico.”
